About

The Welsh Centre for Cleft Lip & Palate will "Step Up for CLAPA" again this year and as a Team will walk the equivalent distance from our Centre in Morriston Hospital, Swansea, to CLAPA Head Office in London. The total distance is 190 miles and for each mile we should walk 2,000 steps, which means 380,000 steps during Cleft Lip & Palate Awareness week.

We invite our colleagues and families to take part and send us your step count, miles and photos by tagging us @CleftTeamWales. We will post pictures on our Twitter page so that you can see where we have been walking.

As a Cleft Team, we are aware of the support that CLAPA provides to families of those born with a cleft lip and/or palate and CLAPA urgently needs our help to keep their vital services going.

Three babies are born with a cleft every day in the United Kingdom. It can have an ongoing impact on feeding, speech, hearing, teeth placement and more. The treatment pathway is 20+ years, and many babies have their first surgery at just three months old.

The Cleft Lip and Palate Association (CLAPA) is the only national support charity for people affected by cleft in the UK. They support people from the moment of diagnosis with reassurance, information, and a welcoming community. They make sure no one affected by cleft in the UK goes through their journey alone.

CLAPA needs your help to continue to reach hundreds of families and adults in need each year. As a small charity, every pound counts, so please give generously to help fund their life-changing services.

Thank you!
